Fruit Cake Squares

A traditional holiday favorite of some, an awful waste of good ingredients to others, everyone has an opinion about fruit cake. Even if you hate the traditional variety, this recipe might make you even like fruit cake.

6 tablespoons butter, melted
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup shredded coconut
2 cups cut up mixed candied fruit
1 cup dates
1 cup nuts, coarsely chopped
1 (15 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Put the melted butter in a 9 x 13-inch pan. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the butter. Add the coconut on top of the graham cracker crumbs. Then add the candied fruit. Cut the dates in a bit of flour so they don’t stick together and then add the dates over the candied fruit. Add the nuts and press the entire mixture lightly to level it in the pan. Add the sweetened condensed milk over the top of the entire mixture evenly. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
