Chocolate Chip Spice Bars

This recipe is a tasty one that is pretty easy to whip up and doesn’t take long to bake. My daughter helped me with this one and when we weren’t looking, shoved a whole handful of chocolate chips in her mouth! When we caught her, she just gave us this sheepish little smile. I’ve gotta say, it was one of the best “cat that ate the canary” looks that I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. I’m beginning to wonder who really runs my kitchen! Hope you enjoy the recipe!

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 package chocolate chips

Cream together the butter and sugars. Add in the egg and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add in the nuts. Spread the mixture in a pan and put the chocolate chips on top. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 13 to 15 minutes.
