Cherry Bars

This is one of those baking stories that for me is deeply personal. When I signed the final paperwork on my divorce, these are the bars I made. It was an emotional roller coaster but I came to realize that a chapter of my life closed and a new one opened up for me. And with a new beginning in my life, I, of course, felt the need to bake something. This is a recipe of my grandmother’s, written by hand by her and tucked into one of the precious cookbooks that had been hers but are now part of my journey.

1 package regular white cake mix (or other – whatever your favorite is)
4 eggs
1 can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup pecans

Combine the cake mix, eggs, and cherry pie filling. Add in the pecans. Put in a 10 x 15-inch pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Cut and serve.
